If you’ve been waiting with increasing impatience for Android 15 to arrive on your Samsung Galaxy phone, you’re not alone, and the last few weeks might have proved particularly tantalizing, with one report suggesting the new software might be delayed, and another saying it’s back on track. Here’s what’s happening, what’s coming, when, and to which phones.
Samsung Galaxy S24
The roll-out of One UI 7, which has Android 15 in it, began on Monday, April 7, and should reach the U.S. on Thursday, April 10. Other countries may have to wait a little longer.
The Samsung Galaxy S25 series already have One UI 7 — it was pre-installed the moment the phone was launched — and the same applies to more recent releases such as the Galaxy A56.
This roll-out favors five handsets: Galaxy S24 Ultra, Galaxy S24 Plus, Galaxy S24, Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Galaxy Z Flip 6. In other words, all the flagship models released in 2024.
A lot more phones are included, going back as far as the Samsung Galaxy S21, Galaxy Z Fold 3, Galaxy Z Flip 3 and Galaxy A23. Samsung has said that the compatibility with reach Galaxy F05, Galaxy M05 and some tablets.
However, it’s not yet clear exactly when these phones or tablets will get the upgrade to One UI 7.
The benefits of One UI 7 aren’t just restricted to the upgrades which come with Android 15, though those are considerable. There are also Samsung specialties like the Now Bar, which appears on the lock screen and gives information and access to certain apps.
Not all the upgrades of Android 15 will come to every phone, as not every device will be able to run AI features, for instance.
If your phone is one of the first five listed above, you should receive a notification saying that it’s ready to be installed. If you haven’t seen the notification and you’re running out of patience (and who could blame you at this point?), open the Settings app and tap on Software Update.
