Key Cast Members of ‘The Pitt’ May Depart for Season 2

The Pitt airs its season 1 finale tonight, the culmination of a stunning 15-episode run that chronicled an entire ER shift in real-time and attracted mass praise, viewership and potential Emmy nominations already.

The Pitt season 2 is happening, and Max wants it out next January, just nine months from now. However, there’s some bad news if you love every single medical character on the show. Due to the nature of real-world ERs, plus the events of the series, we may be losing a good chunk of them. Let’s go through the potential losses:

Mel King (Taylor Dearden), Trinity Santos (Isa Briones), Dennis Whitaker (Gerran Howell), Victoria Javadi (Shabana Azeez)

You may recognize that all of these characters were the ones who were introduced in the premiere as this being the first day of their ER rotation at various points in their medical training careers. The problem with that is that ER rotations end, and with season 2 taking place 10 months after the events of season 1, that could mean they’re all gone next time, as that’s just sort of how this works.

The potential is there for a return. You can do multiple ER rotations, and you will probably do that especially if you are pursuing ER as a field of medicine. But all four returning at the same time? That would be a bit of a stretch if The Pitt wants to keep portraying itself as realistic as possible.

Frank Langdon (Patrick Ball)

You may know the reasoning here, as even though Frank returned to help with the mass shooting after Dr. Robby kicked him out, his thievery and apparent addiction are not going away. He may not be welcome back in the ER after that at all, at least not that one.

But in the field of medicine, you can push through your “mistakes.” One idea here would be to put Frank through rehab, which could be over in this ten month window, and return him to work if he could prove he was clean. So that could mean he does come back. But another question is about the actor himself, as Patrick Ball recently announced he will be playing Hamlet in an LA production starting in May. But The Pitt production and filming will be spooling up soon, so it’s not clear if he would be able to do both.

Dana Evans (Katherine LaNasa)

After being punched in the face by a patient, Dana told Robby that she thinks it may be time to hang it up and retire. He doesn’t want her to, of course, and there’s no guarantee she will, but ten months later? It’s possible. My guess would be no, she stays, but this was raised as a specific plot point.

Who do you think will stay and go? It’s tough to lose anyone from this amazing cast, to be sure.
