Dropbox’s Chief Customer Officer Eric Cox to step down, according to official filing

Dropbox’s chief customer officer, Eric Cox, plans to step down, according to a document filed with the SEC on Friday. Cox will remain in his current role for “a period of time” to help with the transition, per the filing, and then will continue as a “non-executive” employee through mid-August.

Dropbox didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment.

Cox joined Dropbox in November 2023 from Vimeo, where he was the COO overseeing sales, customer success, data, strategy, and operations. Prior to that, Cox spent 19 years at Adobe in a variety of roles, including digital media go-to-market sales lead for the Americas and VP of digital media for business.

“Eric’s extensive SaaS and B2B experience, deep industry expertise, and passion for our customers will be invaluable as we bring our new products to market and usher in our next phase of growth,” wrote Dropbox in a blog post announcing Cox’s hiring.

Dropbox has had a rough go of it lately. While its most recent fiscal quarter topped Wall Street estimates, the company’s revenue growth slowed and guidance for the current quarter came up light. Dropbox’s stock is down around 8% year-to-date.

As part of an aggressive turnaround plan, Dropbox announced last October that it would lay off 20% of its staff, or around 528 people.

Dropbox has increasingly looked to AI technologies as a potential revenue driver. Recently, the company expanded its AI-powered smart organization and search tool, Dropbox Dash, with enterprise-focused features, including data governance controls.
