The first day of track and field events in Paris on Friday showcased the spirit of the Olympics.
During the women’s 100-meter prelim, Laotian sprinter Silina Pha Aphay and Lucia Moris of South Sudan were competing for a top three spot to advance to the next round.

Pha Aphay saw Moris go down halfway through the race.

Pha Aphay finished with a season best of 12.45 seconds, but was not able to qualify.
Instead of celebrating, Pha Aphay checked on Moris who was in distress.

American sprinter Sha’Carri Richardson won the first round with a time of 10.94 seconds to qualify for the semifinals on Saturday.
