Jennifer Lopez has filed for divorce, and A-ROD seems to be shading her for it?
That’s the impression, at least.
With Bennifer 2.0 officially over, people are reflecting on J. Lo’s dating history. Before Ben Affleck, her last relationship was with Alex Rodriguez.
And A-ROD appears to be throwing shade her way regarding the end of their marriage. Ouch!
Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez are (officially) divorcing
Recent news revealed that Jennifer Lopez has filed for divorce from Ben Affleck.
This decision came after months of speculation about their breakup, with both Ben and Jen going their separate ways in public appearances.
According to her divorce filing, they separated in April of this year, aligning with their lack of joint appearances and separate celebrations.
In the aftermath of the divorce announcement, social media was flooded with snarky comments.
2024 saw Jennifer Lopez release two underwhelming movies on streaming platforms. Discussions online highlighted Lopez’s reputation for notoriously poor tipping practices in recent years.
As online commentators shared their thoughts and a bit of schadenfreude over the end of Bennifer 2.0, Lopez’s other ex seemed to throw shade her way.
Is A-ROD shading Jennifer Lopez?
Shortly after Jennifer Lopez’s divorce filing made headlines globally on August 20, Alex Rodriguez took to his Instagram Story to share a self-quote.
“You either go one way or the other, you might as well be the one deciding the direction,” read the quote he posted.
Under usual circumstances, this quote would be innocuous. But given the context, it’s reasonable to speculate that it may refer to Jennifer Lopez’s recent separation.
Even if the quote hints at Jennifer Lopez’s split from Ben Affleck — which seems probable — it doesn’t necessarily come off as shade. It’s not meant to be insulting or otherwise negative.
Shade usually carries an element of disguised criticism.
However, in this case, it appears that A-ROD was simply pointing out that Jennifer Lopez should be the one making the decision to end the relationship. So, it might not be intended as shade towards her.
