A Mexican actress passed away after willingly taking part in a spiritual cleansing ritual where she reportedly ingested poisonous Amazonian frog venom.
Marcela Alcázar RodrÃguez, 33, consumed some of the poison as part of a toxic cleansing ritual that some South American natives use for spiritual purification, as per local reports.
RodrÃguez started vomiting and experienced severe diarrhea.
Although initially refusing help while feeling unwell, she eventually relented when her friend visited and her condition deteriorated, according to witnesses.

Mexican production company Mapache Films confirmed the death, stating that she was a “beloved colleague and friend.”
“With deep regret, we mourn the death of our beloved colleague and friend, Marcela Alcázar RodrÃguez,” the production company shared in a social media post.

Kambo is a South American healing ritual that involves the toxic secretions of a frog, as per Healthline.

“The frog secretes the substance as a defense mechanism to kill or subdue animals that try to eat it. Some humans, on the other hand, apply the substance to their body for its alleged health benefits,” the outlet mentioned.
Authorities are looking into a shaman’s role in the incident.
