After over 15 months of continuous Israeli bombings, much of the Gaza Strip lies in ruins, leaving hundreds of thousands of Palestinians without a place to call home.
During the genocide, around 90 percent of Gaza’s 2.3 million residents were forcibly displaced, some multiple times.
Although a ceasefire is now in place, the aftermath of Israeli airstrikes has rendered most homes unlivable and destroyed.
“The cessation of violence brings a sense of relief. I am grateful to have survived this war unharmed. However, upon returning to our homes, we were met with devastation and ruin,” expressed Jomaa Shadi, a displaced Palestinian, in an interview with Al Jazeera.
“I painstakingly built this house only to find it in ruins upon my return. It’s heartbreaking to see my home destroyed, instead of the place I once knew.”
