Sennheiser has revealed a new pair of open-back headphones designed for anyone looking to upgrade their sound without paying a fortune. The new HD 505 headphones have a combination of analytical tuning, detail and comfort, the kind of things you might want for lengthy listening sessions.
At the heart of the Sennheiser HD 505 are custom 120Ω drivers housed in an open earcup. These drivers are manufactured at Sennheiser’s audiophile factory in Tullamore, Ireland. The headphones have a wide frequency response ranging from a deep 12Hz to 38,500Hz. The total harmonic distortion of the HD 505 is less than 0.2%.
Sennheiser claims the HD505 can deliver a balanced sound signature with punchy bass, clear mids, and a treble that is smooth enough to keep listening fatigue at bay. The drivers are angled within their housing to reproduce the triangular positioning that a set of nearfield loudspeakers would create.
