Alderman from Chicago claims Mayor Johnson is only catering to ‘hyper-White liberal progressives’ on immigration issues

A number of Chicago aldermen reacted to Mayor Brandon Johnson’s bold stance against the Trump administration’s immigration policies.

When asked whether Johnson and city officials were attentive to the voices of constituents on the matter:

“Absolutely not,” Alderman Nick Sposato told Fox News Digital. “The mayor is a friend of mine. He’s way left. I’m way right. I can’t understand why he’s not heeding the people. I have to assume that the majority do not want to protect these wrongdoers in our city, state, or country.”

Residents’ dissatisfaction with Johnson’s management of the surge in migrants entering the city has magnified over the last couple of years. At various city council meetings, their discontent has been evident as they opposed a proposed tax increase to combat the city’s budget shortfall, while the city spends over half a billion dollars on sheltering migrants.

Despite the pushback from residents, Johnson criticized ICE and the Trump administration for detaining illegal immigrants in the city last month.

Alderman Ray Lopez mentioned that Johnson only values the views of “hyper-liberal white progressives” residing in Chicago.

“He’s not concerned about African-Americans, he’s not concerned about Latinos, and he’s absolutely not concerned about undocumented Mexicans who will bear the brunt of his actions,” he expressed. “He is playing with their lives, and it’s abhorrent.”

Recently, the Chicago city council blocked Lopez’s proposal allowing local law enforcement to aid ICE in detaining migrants with a criminal history.

“Why wouldn’t we deport them, especially if they’re guilty of the crimes they’re accused of?,” Alderman Brian Hopkins stated. “He believes that he is a staunch advocate for human rights, regardless of citizenship status, so if you’re here and not a citizen committing severe crimes, he wants to shield you.”

Two illegal migrants were charged in the killing of a 63-year-old man discovered bound at his Chicago residence on Sunday. This happened on the same day that Trump’s border czar Tom Homan led an immigration enforcement operation in the city.

“I have Venezuelan gangs—The Tren De Aragua and all the rest of them here fighting against my residents, fighting against local businesses, fighting against even the long-term undocumented who’ve made this their home, causing chaos and dangerous situations on the streets here.” Lopez remarked. “It’s crucial now more than ever to revisit this issue and collaborate with our federal partners to remove these criminal elements present in our communities and city.”

Johnson’s office did not promptly respond to a request for comment.
