EXCLUSIVE: A group of House Republicans are advocating for redirecting frozen foreign aid funds by President Donald Trump towards enhancing deportation efforts of illegal immigrants in the U.S.
Rep. Andy Ogles, R-Tenn., is introducing his Restoring American Sovereignty Act on Thursday, supported by fellow House Freedom Caucus members Reps. Andy Biggs, R-Ariz., and Tom Tiffany, R-Wis.
“Americans were consistently put last during the Biden administration. This was evident in the crisis of criminal crossings at our Southern border and the wasteful allocation of taxpayer money by agencies like USAID,” Ogles stated.

He mentioned that his bill would “utilize the USAID funding paused by President Trump to deport illegal aliens from the United States.”
Tiffany commented that the bill “ensures our tax dollars prioritize Americans’ security” and referred to the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) as an “international money laundering scheme.”
“America has spent billions of taxpayer dollars funding Democrats’ pet projects in countries that despise us and everything we stand for,” stated Biggs.
Trump suspended most foreign aid for a 90-day period to allow his new administration time to assess which foreign funding aligns with his agenda.
He and Secretary of State Marco Rubio included carve-outs for emergency needs.
Meanwhile, Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) initiated a crackdown on USAID earlier this week. By Friday, Feb. 7, nearly all of USAID’s overseas employees will be placed on administrative leave.
Republicans have contended that USAID has been poorly managed for a long time, sending U.S. taxpayer money to LGBTQ initiatives and other social causes abroad. They have also accused the agency of obstructing GOP oversight efforts.
Democrats have strongly criticized the reduction, condemning Musk as an unelected bureaucrat whose businesses also depend on government contracts. They’ve argued that freezing USAID funding jeopardizes vital initiatives like cancer and HIV research in Africa.
