Antonblast: A Retro-Inspired Platformer That Goes Wild

Antonblast is like playing a zany Saturday morning cartoon, with a brash, maximalist style that can leave you feeling a bit confused at times. However, somehow all the chaos comes together to create a sense of calm.

Launched in 2024, Antonblast gives off a nostalgic vibe reminiscent of 16-bit side-scrolling platformers from the SNES or Sega Genesis era. The pixel art is fantastic, and the game features fun ’90s character designs and effects that make it feel like a classic from that time.

Developed by Summitsphere, Antonblast is described as a “fast-paced explosive action platformer.” Playing as either Anton or Annie, you must navigate through various levels to retrieve Spirits stolen by the villainous Satan.

The levels each have their own gimmick or theme, similar to Nintendo games, which adds a level of precision to the gameplay. There are moments of grinding and exciting boss fights that can be challenging but rewarding.

While Antonblast may be loud and immature at times, much like ’90s cartoons, it’s clear that the creators had fun crafting this over-the-top world. The game is available on Nintendo Switch and Steam for those looking for an exhilarating gaming experience.
