President-elect Trump expressed on Wednesday that he felt it was “too bad” that Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., was recently denied a leadership role on a House committee, leading to a lighthearted response from the progressive politician.
“It’s really too bad that AOC lost the Battle for the Leadership Seat in the Democrat Party,” Trump posted on Truth Social on Wednesday. “She should keep trying. Someday, she will be successful!”
Following this, Ocasio-Cortez humorously reacted to Trump’s comments.
“Wow, you know it’s bad when even Trump is feeling sorry for me,” Ocasio-Cortez remarked, alongside a laughing emoji.

The comical back-and-forth occurred just a day after the 36-year-old Democrat experienced defeat in her attempt to lead the House Oversight Committee. The position ultimately went to Democratic Rep. Gerry Connolly of Virginia, who secured 131 votes compared to Ocasio-Cortez’s 84.
“I express gratitude to my colleagues for their support and faith in me to head the House Democrats on the Oversight Committee,” Connolly stated after winning the election within the House Democratic Caucus.
