Apple’s smart display may bear a striking resemblance to the iconic iMac G4

When Apple introduced the iMac G4 in 2002, it became the trendiest personal computer to own. Unlike traditional beige-box PCs, the iMac G4 had a unique design with a white/clear plastic display attached to a hemispherical base.

The iconic iMac G4 may be a thing of the past now, but Apple is rumored to launch a similar device next year, at least in terms of its appearance.

According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, Apple’s rumored smart home display will resemble the iMac G4 with a display attached to a small base reminiscent of the iMac G3.

The base may have speakers, making it a HomePod (mini?) with a screen. Gurman suggests that the display will be small, about the size of two iPhones placed side by side.

This small size could make the device relatively affordable, suitable for multiple rooms in a home. Gurman also mentions that the device will run a new operating system with iPad-like apps, tailored for videos, photo slideshows, FaceTime, Notes, and Calendar.

Gurman predicts that Apple’s smart home display will launch in 2025 as the first of two smart displays. The larger model, expected in 2026, will have a bigger display and a robotic limb but will cost closer to $1,000.
