Apple’s sophisticated technology now requires greater iPhone storage space

Apple is gradually introducing more AI features to iPhone users, but it comes with a cost.

Recently, the internal storage requirements for installing Apple Intelligence on a supported Apple device (iPhone, iPad, Mac) have nearly doubled. According to a notice on Apple’s website (reported by 9to5Mac), installing Apple Intelligence now requires 7GB of storage space.

Initially, Apple Intelligence with iOS 18.1 required a 4GB install size. With the addition of features like Genmoji in the iOS 18.2 update, the storage requirement has increased. As Apple continues to enhance Apple Intelligence in the future, the storage commitment may continue to grow. The oldest iPhone compatible with Apple Intelligence is the iPhone 15 Pro, which comes with 128GB internal storage.

It’s important to note that Apple Intelligence features cannot be installed selectively. You either get all of them or none at all.

For many users, this increase in storage requirement may not be an issue. However, for those who frequently reach their device’s storage limits, Apple Intelligence may not be worth it.
