AT&T encountered problems on Tuesday night, causing customers to see “SOS” instead of their usual service bars.
A software issue affecting a limited number of customers connecting to the wireless network has been resolved by AT&T. AT&T spokesperson Jim Kimberly expressed apologies for the inconvenience and gratitude for customers’ patience.
Downdetector observed a rise in problem reports after 4PM ET, diminishing towards midnight on the East Coast.
Kimberly refuted an inaccurate explanation by The Mobile Report. The report claimed a failure at a switching center resulted in network connectivity issues, delays, and the inability to provision SIM cards, affecting mainly Apple devices.
Update, August 28th: Added statement from AT&T spokesperson noting the issue appears to be resolved.
