BENNINGTON — On Saturday, July 26, Bennington will come alive with creativity and celebration as the Better Bennington Corporation hosts its first-ever ArtsFest, a new event highlighting the artists, institutions, and cultural energy that make Bennington a destination for art lovers of all ages.
Running from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. along the Downtown Bennington Riverwalk, ArtsFest is a free, family-friendly afternoon filled with pop-up workshops, art demonstrations, and live performances. Produced by the Better Bennington Corporation Design Committee in collaboration with local partners, the event is a celebration of the many creative organizations, artists, and cultural institutions that make Bennington’s arts scene vibrant and accessible.
This year’s ArtsFest also serves as the opening reception for the new sculpture exhibition in Downtown Bennington, presented in partnership with the North Bennington Outdoor Sculpture Show (NBOSS). Now in its second year bringing NBOSS sculptures and artists downtown, the exhibit features contemporary outdoor sculptures by artists from across the region. Event goers will have the opportunity to meet some of the exhibiting artists, view the newly installed pieces, and experience the Riverwalk as an evolving outdoor gallery space.
ArtsFest is part of a full-day celebration across Bennington. The festivities begin at noon with TrailFest at the Bennington Recreation Center, continue with ArtsFest in the afternoon until 4:30 p.m., followed by an evening concert featuring Alex Torres & His Latin Orchestra at Merchants Park from 5-7:00 p.m. and conclude with Tina’s Cantina Outdoor Concert at Madison Brewing Company starting at 7:30 PM. Whether you’re an outdoor adventurer, art enthusiast, or live music fan, July 26 offers something for everyone.
Throughout ArtsFest, visitors can participate in barn quilt board painting with the Better Bennington Corporation, explore a hands-on activities presented by the Bennington Museum and Vermont Arts Exchange, and experience a live spinning wheel demonstration followed by a knitting activity with King’s Knit Wit, topped off with a taste of their signature cookies. The Bennington Theater will also host a live performance and interactive experience, while live music will echo along the Riverwalk with performances by the Henri Simpatico Ukulele Ensemble and local musicians.
“We’re excited to launch our first annual Artsfest and highlight the creative energy that makes downtown Bennington shine. From sculptures along the beautiful Riverwalk to the colorful quilt board trail, now heading into Phase Two…the arts are bringing new life, color, and connection to our community”, said Jeanne Mintrone, Executive Director of the BBC.
“This event is a celebration of all the arts organizations, artists, and creative spaces that make Bennington such a vibrant place to live and visit,” said Ahmad Yassir, a member of the BBC Design Committee and board member. “It’s also an invitation to reconnect with your imagination, explore something new, and enjoy a beautiful afternoon outdoors with your community.”
All activities are free and open to the public, with materials provided for hands-on art-making. Attendees are encouraged to come curious, bring friends or family, and enjoy a welcoming atmosphere designed to spark creativity, dialogue, and connection.
