Biden calls for peace as Israel launches airstrikes on Lebanon | United Nations News

United States President Joe Biden expressed his opposition to a “full-scale war” in Lebanon, following Israeli attacks that have resulted in numerous casualties.

During his address at the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), Biden emphasized the importance of a diplomatic resolution between Israel and Hezbollah.

He stated that a full-scale war is not beneficial to anyone and reiterated the need for a peaceful solution.

Despite calls to reconsider US support for Israel in light of ongoing conflicts, Biden has continued to show unwavering support for the Israeli government.

Recent reports from the Lebanese Health Ministry indicate a high death toll and many injuries due to Israel’s bombardment, while attacks on the Gaza Strip have also continued.

Biden reiterated his call for a ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas, urging both parties to prioritize peace and secure the release of captives.

Critics have noted the lack of pressure on Israel from the Biden administration, allowing Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to escalate military actions.

Support for Ukraine

Biden also highlighted the US support for Ukraine amid Russia’s invasion, emphasizing the importance of standing by the country during these challenging times.

The administration has provided significant aid to Ukraine, and Biden reaffirmed the commitment to supporting them until a just and lasting peace is achieved.

Concerns have been raised about the future of US assistance to Ukraine if former President Trump, who proposes scaling back support, wins the upcoming presidential election.

Trump criticized Biden and Harris for their handling of the war in Ukraine, calling for a different approach.

Ukrainian President Zelenskyy has urged the Biden administration to consider loosening restrictions on missile use, allowing Ukrainian forces to target deeper inside Russia.

Meetings are scheduled between Biden, Harris, and Zelenskyy in Washington to discuss the situation and explore potential solutions.
