‘Destiny 2’ players complete 266 clears of a mode that shouldn’t have been available

One of the most hilarious situations I’ve ever seen happened yesterday at Destiny 2 reset, which after some extended downtime, Bungie launched Act 2 of Episode Heresy. However, they also launched Act 3 content at the same time, Rite of the Nine, its upcoming dungeon teaching/contest mode for three old dungeons that…was absolutely not ready yet.

This resulted in the ability to clear the dungeons on contest mode, while grabbing loot that was completely unskinned, weapons with no textures and mismatched perks that felt like taking brownies out of the oven after three minutes and having them be mostly liquid. Uncooked, very much so.

‘Destiny 2’ Launches Unfinished Rite Of The Nine Dungeon Mode Early

Despite the odd loot, the dungeons were in fact clearly, albeit you had to glitch your way into finishing one of them. The end result, via D2cbro was:

  • Spire of the Watcher – 138 clears
  • Prophecy – 123 clears (this is the one you had to glitch)
  • Ghosts of the Deep – 5 clears

Only one group of players cleared all three in the very limited few hours they were live before being disabled, Saltagreppo, TheSnazzzyRock and Silomare, no stranger to World’s Firsts.

It’s kind of funny that Ghost only had five clears, but wholly expected given its length and its overly beefy bosses that are no doubt even more annoying in contest mode.

The actual Rite of the Nine is supposed to arrive with three modes, a teaching mode will tooltips and hints about mechanics, a normal mode and then contest mode for extra challenge and Adept shiny loot. Needless to say, no one got Adept shiny loot. The actual guns in question will be Nine-themed reprised dungeon weapons that will in fact look pretty cool once they have textures on them.

As for how this happened it’s just…Bungie is wildly understaffed at this point after layoffs and departure, the studio now half the size of what it was a few years ago, and a large chunk working on Marathon to boot. Big and small issues keep slipping through the cracks, in this case pouring through the cracks, and things do not seem like they’re going to get better until Frontiers, where at least there will be less content to manage. But that will come with its own issues.

Anyway, this was very funny. Players needed a laugh like this, and I’m glad we all got to experience this for a few hours, at least.
