The Los Angeles Chargers will face the Detroit Lions in the annual Hall of Fame game during enshrinement week.
The Hall announced the match for July 31, with the Chargers playing just before tight end Antonio Gates is inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
Gates will be joined by Eric Allen, Jared Allen, and Sterling Sharpe as modern-era inductees on August 2.
The Lions will be the home team after their 15-2 record last season, while the Chargers, with an 11-6 record, made the playoffs as a wild-card team in coach Jim Harbaugh’s debut season.
This will be the Lions’ fourth and the Chargers’ third appearance in Canton. The Lions’ last game in 1991 was a win over Denver, while the Chargers’ last appearance in 1994 was a loss to Atlanta.
The game will be aired on NBC.
