A 23-year-old Guatemalan national, Keycy Robinson Alexis Barrera-Rosa, was charged by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) with the murder of a mother in Maryland on Wednesday. The body of Lesbia Mileth Ramirez Guerra was found buried near a state forest in LaPlata.
ICE stated that Barrera-Rose would be “fully prosecuted” for the alleged murder.

Sentor Chris Van Hollen, after returning from a visit to El Salvador, has not publicly commented on the Guerra case. However, he has previously spoken out against illegal immigrant crime.

Following the return of Van Hollen, who had been trying to retrieve Kilmar Garcia from El Salvador, several House Democrats have been criticized by the GOP for their actions.
After various crimes committed by illegal immigrants in Maryland, ICE has been active in arresting suspects, such as Victor Martinez-Hernandez and Rene Pop-Chub.

In a 2024 case in Montgomery Village, ICE detained an “unlawfully present” Honduran national and previous deportee named Madai Gamaliel Amaya.Â
Amaya’s arrest marked what ICE said was a record of 153 arrests of noncitizen sex offenders in Maryland in FY-2024.
Despite the high-profile cases in Maryland, Governor Wes Moore stated that the state has seen a decrease in violent crimes due to law enforcement efforts.
