CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WVIR) – A day after their unexpected release, UVA Center for Politics is busy searching the Martin Luther King Jr. files for details about his assassination.
Its Director of Research Garland Branch said a team of between 30 and 50 have already made its way through about a quarter of the six thousand files that were declassified.
He said so far, they are mainly learning about the investigation that took place immediately after Martin Luther King Jr.’s assassination.
Branch said the files set to release in 2027 will likely be more revealing.
“It’s very much like a jigsaw puzzle in that you have various pieces and you’re trying to put together those pieces to try to get an understanding of the full picture,” Branch said. “So, these documents that have been released these documents help us have a better picture and understanding of some of what went on after the assassination.”
