Deion Sanders of Colorado sends a strong message to players in transfer portal interested in joining team

Numerous college football stars have announced their intentions to enter the transfer portal in search of better opportunities at another school – whether it be competing for a national championship, securing a more lucrative NIL deal, or enhancing their chances of playing professionally.

Deion Sanders, head coach of the Colorado Buffaloes, who has frequently utilized the transfer portal to strengthen his team, had a message for those opting to enter the mix.

“To many of the Portal Young Men that’s looking & searching for the right situation,” Sanders wrote on X. “You’re gonna get vetted thoroughly by us and then I pray u know the difference of being offered a bag & being offered a BLESSING. Ask Grandma-nem what I mean.”

Sanders utilized the transfer portal to bring his sons, Shedeur and Shilo, and Heisman Trophy candidate Travis Hunter to the team when he assumed coaching duties.

Colorado has enjoyed a quietly successful season in Sanders’ second year as head coach, improving from four wins in 2023 to nine wins in 2024. The Buffaloes are on the cusp of their first 10-win season since 2016 under Mike MacIntyre.

Throughout the 2000s, the team has only achieved two 10-win seasons.

Colorado is set to compete in the Alamo Bowl against BYU.

Sanders mentioned last month that the team’s top players will participate in the bowl game.

“Our kids are going to play in our bowl game because that’s what we signed up to do,” he said. “We’re going to finish. We’re not going to tap out because that throws off the structure of next season.”
