Rep. Ro Khanna, D-Calif., emphasized on Sunday the potential for “bipartisan cooperation” in tackling government inefficiency alongside SpaceX CEO Elon Musk.
During an interview with ABC’s “This Week,” host Martha Raddatz raised questions about recent discussions between the Democratic lawmaker and Musk regarding President-elect Donald Trump’s efforts to reduce government expenditures.
While this initiative is primarily led by Republicans, Khanna expressed optimism about collaborating with Musk to address wasteful spending.

“Elon Musk, in collaboration with President Obama and Ash Carter, strategically disrupted Boeing and Lockheed through Space X. We were being overcharged as American citizens for satellite launches into space. Under the leadership of President Obama and Ash Carter, Elon Musk’s Space X was given the opportunity to bid on these rocket launches, utilizing reusable rockets,” Khanna explained.
“Let’s circle back to your conversation with him,” Raddatz intervened.
Khanna continued, “We’ve had discussions on this topic. I highlighted that Tesla and SpaceX received government funding under the Obama administration and emphasized the importance of government involvement. By examining Space X’s success, could we apply similar cost-saving strategies to other defense components? I believe there is significant potential for bipartisan collaboration when it comes to enhancing defense capabilities and reducing expenses.”
Musk and former presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy are currently co-leading the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), a non-governmental entity, and have been engaging with various Republican lawmakers to explore cost-cutting measures.
The bipartisan DOGE Caucus was officially established on Tuesday when Florida Democratic Rep. Jared Moskowitz announced his participation in the caucus, advocating for the removal of the U.S. Secret Service (USSS) from the Department of Homeland Security (DHS).

“I will be joining the Congressional DOGE Caucus today because I believe that streamlining government operations and reducing ineffective spending should transcend party lines,” Moskowitz stated in a release.
“I have consistently maintained that there are avenues to restructure our government for the betterment of the American people. The Department of Homeland Security, despite its necessity, has grown excessively large,” Moskowitz remarked.
