Democratic Senator warns that wildfires in Los Angeles are a glimpse of future disasters and accuses Trump of being influenced by Big Oil.

Amid the devastation caused by fires in California, Senator Ed Markey, a Democrat from Massachusetts, took to X to declare that the ongoing catastrophe is a clear example of a “climate emergency.” He pointed fingers at President-elect Trump, accusing him of being influenced by the oil industry.

Markey asserted, “Trump has been bought for $1 billion by Big Oil. Just a payoff to kill the IRA and the Green New Deal. We know what will happen. More fires, more climate disasters, more death. The LA fires are a preview of coming atrocities,” in a post on X.

Markey, who emphasizes the existence of a “climate crisis,” also expressed concerns about the potential impacts of artificial intelligence (AI).

Markey also raised concerns that the increased usage of AI could lead to “doubling data center electricity demand by 2026,” as well as increased carbon emissions, water supply shortages, and electronic waste.

“We are already facing a climate crisis. We can’t let AI make it worse,” Markey cautioned.
