Democratic socialist senator supports Harris’ price-fixing plan as ‘significant progress’

Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., expressed his support for Vice President Kamala Harris’ new economic policy proposal on Friday, calling it “bold and popular.”

“Is it everything I would want? No,” he stated. “But is it a significant step towards creating a fairer and more just society in our country? Absolutely.”

Sanders commended the proposal for addressing the needs of working families and confronting the rampant corporate greed across America.

Sanders has often identified as a Democratic socialist and is known as one of the most left-leaning U.S. politicians.

Harris’ plan, unveiled by her campaign, includes various expansions of policies enacted during the Biden-Harris administration, targeting corporate “price gouging” in the food industry with a proposed federal ban on it.

Additionally, the plan aims to expand the child tax credit significantly, offering credits of up to $6,000 in a child’s first year. Current prescription drug price caps would be extended to all, not just seniors.

Harris’ economic agenda includes establishing a $40 billion fund to assist local governments in constructing more housing and implementing measures to regulate landlords.

“In a time of extreme wealth and income inequality, with the wealthiest 1% thriving while 60% of Americans live paycheck to paycheck, Vice President Harris recognizes the necessity of creating an economy that benefits everyone, not just the elite,” Sanders remarked in a comprehensive statement.

He further stated that Harris “recognizes the need to confront the profiteering of the food and beverage industry, which is raking in massive profits by inflating grocery prices.”

Opponents have challenged Harris and Democrats’ view that high prices are solely due to corporate greed. Critics from the Republican side have criticized the plan, attributing price hikes to the spending packages championed by President Biden and Harris during their tenure.

“The ‘price-gouging’ that they’ve experienced has come at the hands of Kamala Harris and Joe Biden,” Sen. Tim Scott, R-S.C., told Fox News Digital in an interview on Friday. “When you artificially stimulate the economy by the federal government and the Democrats spending trillions of dollars, the net effect is high inflation, high interest, high demand and lower supply.”

“Now Kamala is reportedly proposing communist price control. She wants price controls, and if they worked, I’d go all along with it, but they don’t work. They actually have the exact opposite impact and effect,” former President Trump said Thursday at a press conference.

The plan has also taken heat from a left-leaning Washington Post columnist who titled her op-ed, “When your opponent calls you ‘communist,’ maybe don’t propose price controls?”
