Diego Coppola: Brighton sign Italy and Verona defender on five-year deal

Brighton have completed the signing of Italy and Hellas Verona centre-back Diego Coppola for an undisclosed fee.

The 21-year-old, capped twice for Italy, has signed a five-year deal with the Seagulls.

The defender made his debut for Verona in 2021, having emerged from the club’s academy.

He has made 81 appearances for the club, scoring four times – including two in 35 appearances last term.

“Diego is an exciting addition for the club,” said Brighton head coach Fabian Hurzeler.

“Although he is still young, he is tall, strong and mobile and he will give us a real physical presence.

“He has made impressive progress in Serie A and deserved his call-up to the Italian national team.”

Coppola is currently representing Italy’s U21s at the European Championships in Slovakia.

The defender is Brighton’s second signing of the summer, following the £29.8m arrival of teenage forward Charalampos Kostoulas from Olympiakos.
