A new development project in Brooklyn’s Park Slope neighborhood is breaking the mold with a luxury living space that doesn’t prioritize families.
Instead, 655 Union Street is focusing on appealing to younger dual-income, no-kids couples, offering amenities that cater to more mature residents.
The 13-story building will include a Pilates studio, rooftop pool, and dog spa, omitting amenities typically designed for children.
Developer Brian Ezra of Avery Hall noted that the average age for starting a family has shifted, making this demographic clearer.
The national fertility rate has hit a historic low, decreasing 3 percent from the previous year, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
Ezra designed the building for adults who aren’t focused on having children but aren’t necessarily single either.
He emphasized a focus on health and wellness, catering to a mature kind of resident who values a different lifestyle.
The building will offer one- and two-bedroom units renting in the mid-$5,000 to mid-$8,000 range and is set to open in mid-January.
Additional amenities will include a Peloton bike gym, social programming, and a concierge service for daily tasks.
