OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) – Construction at Omaha’s Eppley Airfield is well into the project’s second stage as crews work on the terminal split, dividing the terminal into north and south sections.
Even with the construction, Eppley is expecting big crowds for the holiday travel week.
Officials are expecting more activity when travelers start to take off for July 4 cookouts and fireworks.
“We’re anticipating around 84,000 travelers moving in and out of Eppley Airfield during that travel period, which we measure from Wednesday to Sunday. That’s about a 3.7% increase over last year alone,” said Steve McCoy with the Omaha Airport Authority.
Madeline Bosse started her holiday early, flying in from Nashville to be with family.
“I feel like Nashville’s always usually crowded. It’s a pretty big hub and it’s an international airport, so it’s pretty busy. Took me about 30 minutes to get through TSA. It was a bit of a trick,” she said.
Right now, it can be a little tricky getting around Eppley.
Things are a little different this year, and travelers need to pay close attention when moving around construction in the terminals.
“With the terminal split, it was started earlier in 2025. We split the terminal into a north terminal and a south terminal, so it’s absolutely critical that passengers know which airline they’re flying on when they go into the correct terminal,” McCoy said. “All they have to do is follow the signage. There’s plenty of other available resources to find your way, including customer service representatives, interactive maps, and changes to help with that travel experience.”
Eppley officials say it’s a good idea to call ahead to check your flight. Don’t wait until you get to the airport to check the board for arrival and departure times.
“The summer, there’s always risk of weather impacting travel, whether it’s here in Omaha at your connecting airport or your destination,” McCoy said.
Bosse has been through Eppley before and found her way through all the construction, even though things have changed.
“It’s been a little bit different navigating to see where to be picked up and all that kind of stuff, so a little bit confusing, but nothing hard to understand,” she said.
Officials recommend arriving about two hours early to find parking and to navigate through the terminal and get through security.
