John Cena is aiming to secure his 17th WWE World Championship without taking any shortcuts. He will need to battle through 29 superstars to earn a shot at the prestigious title.
During a recent episode of What Were They Thinking? on Backstage Pass, John Cena Sr. expressed his thoughts on the possibility of his son winning the world title, mentioning a bet he made with his partner.
“Well, we’ll see what happens. I have a bet going with my girlfriend Moniece. We watched the Netflix comeback when he first returned and gave his speech in the ring – that classic Cena swerve. You know, ‘Chances of me winning that seventeen-time heavyweight championship. Well, I might get an Oscar before I get that (imitates Cena).’ And I’m like, ‘Here it comes.'”
He mentioned placing a $500 bet during Cena Jr’s promo;
“Then he said, ‘Oh, but I never give up. I never quit. So I’m entering the Royal Rumble.’ Immediately she said, ‘he’s going to be a 17-time heavyweight champion.’ I said, ‘I’ll place $500 here, let’s see what happens.’ She asked, ‘Are you betting for or against?’ I replied, ‘We’ll open the envelope when it happens and see if I’m right.’ We’ll see. We’ll see.” [From 11:20 onwards]
John Cena’s last world title victory was in 2017 when he defeated AJ Styles to capture his 16th WWE Championship at the Royal Rumble. Fans will have to wait to see if Cena surpasses Ric Flair’s record for most title victories.
