Father confesses to killing 10-year-old daughter in England, calls UK police from Pakistan

Prosecutors stated on Monday that the father of a 10-year-old girl found dead in England contacted U.K. police from Pakistan, confessing to killing his daughter.

Urfan Sharif, 42, along with his partner Beinash Batool and brother Faisal Malik are being tried for the murder of Sara Sharif at London’s Central Criminal Court (The Associated Press).

According to Prosecutor William Emlyn Jones, all three defendants were involved in a series of abuses directed towards Sara in the period leading up to her death.

Police discovered Sara’s body in a bunk bed at her Woking residence near London on Aug. 10, 2023. The child had numerous injuries that led to her unnatural death during a post-mortem examination.

Jones mentioned that Sara’s death was discovered after her father contacted U.K. police claiming responsibility for her death during a call from Pakistan.

He stated to the operator that although he did not intend to kill her, he had severely beaten her, resulting in her death.

On August 9, Urfan Sharif, Batool, and Malik fled to Islamabad, Pakistan.

Following a search, Pakistani authorities located the suspects and extradited them to the U.K., where they were arrested upon arrival in London.

Jones asserted that since the three suspects resided in the same house as Sara, it’s unlikely that only one of them was involved in her death.

He mentioned that each suspect tried to shift the blame onto the others for the girl’s death. Urfan Sharif, in particular, accused Batool of being responsible and falsely confessed to protect her.

A phone call recording on the night of Aug. 8, 2023, when Sara was believed to have died, was presented to the jury. In the recording, Batool inquired about booking a flight to Islamabad for four adults and four children.

The three suspects deny any involvement in Sara’s death or allowing it to occur.

The trial is scheduled to run until December.
