Star Ted Lange found inspiration during his time on “The Love Boat.”
Appearing on Steve Kmetko’s “Still Here Hollywood” podcast, Lange shared that his role as bartender Isaac led to an idea for an advice column.
Named “Ask Isaac,” the column stemmed from interactions with fans who sought advice from him on the show.
Initially co-written with Jenna Jameson, the column later featured Beth Ostrosky.
“Ask Isaac” aimed to provide safe sex advice with a touch of humor for the readers of the men’s magazine, FHM.
Lange reminisces about his time as Isaac on “The Love Boat,” alongside co-stars Gavin MacLeod, Bernie Kopell, Fred Grandy, Lauren Tewes, and Jill Wheelan.
The show was known for weekly guest appearances by celebrities like Gene Kelly.
Despite being warned not to engage with Kelly, Lange struck up a conversation with him and bonded over a shared interest in the Nicholas brothers’ dancing.
Looking back, Lange believes his unique approach to Kelly led to a memorable encounter.
