Ukrainian officials reported that North Korean troops accidentally killed Russian paramilitary soldiers in a recent case of friendly fire. The Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) soldiers were assisting Russian troops in Kursk Oblast, currently occupied by Ukrainian forces. Approximately 11,000 DPRK personnel are stationed in Russia according to Ukrainian estimates.
In a statement released by the Defense Intelligence of Ukraine (DIU) on Saturday, they revealed that Russian forces utilized DPRK soldiers in assault operations in the Kursk region. This joint operation resulted in significant losses for the North Korean troops due to a successful fire attack by Ukrainian Security and Defense Forces, including being targeted by FPV drones at one position in the Kursk region.
