Nate Frazier completed a 2-point conversion in the eighth overtime of an epic game after No. 6 Georgia staged a remarkable comeback, securing a thrilling 44-42 victory over Georgia Tech on Friday night.
Despite trailing 17-0 at halftime and being outplayed for most of the game, the Bulldogs (10-2, No. 7 CFP) likely solidified their spot in the College Football Playoff, regardless of their performance in the upcoming Southeastern Conference championship game.
Carson Beck threw five touchdown passes, including two in overtime, in a game where the Bulldogs never took the lead until after regular play ended in a 27-27 tie.
Haynes King led Georgia Tech (7-5) with three rushing touchdowns and two passing touchdowns, but the Yellow Jackets suffered their seventh consecutive defeat to the Bulldogs, with the game concluding just minutes past midnight on a cold night at Sanford Stadium.
Frazier received a handoff from Beck and dashed up the middle, igniting fireworks above Sanford Stadium.
This game set a new SEC record for the longest game and was just one overtime away from the overall FBS record, which stands at Illinois’ 20-18 victory over Penn State in 2021 that extended to nine extra periods.
