Gmail introduces a new ‘Add to calendar’ feature powered by Gemini

A new Gmail feature powered by Google’s Gemini AI has been introduced for Google Workspace customers. Users can now easily add events to their Google Calendar directly from an email.

Gemini will detect calendar-related content in the email and display an “Add to calendar” button. When clicked, the side panel in Gmail will open to confirm that the event has been added to the calendar.

According to a recent blog post by Google, this feature is currently only available in English and on the web. Events created using the “Add to calendar” button will not include other guests and will not be displayed for emails with existing events such as restaurant and flight reservations.

Users on Google Workspace Business and Enterprise tiers, as well as customers with a Gemini Education, Gemini Education Premium, or Google One AI Premium plan, can use this new feature. Admins can enable the “Add to calendar” feature by enabling smart features and personalization from the Workspace Admin console.

This “Add to calendar” feature is part of the latest Gemini-powered tools being added to Gmail. In June 2024, Google introduced new capabilities to Gmail on the web to help users write emails, summarize email threads, ask questions, and find specific information from emails in their inbox. Some of these features have also been added to the Gmail apps for iOS and Android.
