Google Keep is becoming a system app on Android 16 devices, alongside essential services like calling and messaging, according to Android Police.
The free note-taking app from Google now appears as a system app on the latest Android 16 beta, Android 16 Developer Preview 2. Users upgrading to this OS version will be unable to uninstall the app unless they have root access.
In April, Google integrated Keep with its Tasks feature following last year’s upgrades that gave more attention to its note-taking app. Now, it seems to be considered a crucial core feature for Android’s operating system, similar to Google’s Phone, Contacts, and Google Play Store apps.
Google has not provided an explanation for the change, but it suggests that Google Keep could be in line for more advanced features to give it a more central role in Android 16. There is speculation that Google may be looking to integrate it with other key Android features.
