If you are looking to replace your septic system, new legislation may make it more affordable for you.
Gov. Kathy Hochul announced Wednesday that eligible property owners can be reimbursed 50% of eligible costs up to $10,00 for the installation of a conventional system.
For enhanced septic systems, they can be reimbursed up to 75% of eligible costs up to $25,000.
It comes from the fifth round of the State Septic System Replacement Fund Program.
“Access to clean water is a basic right, and communities from Montauk to Buffalo deserve safe, reliable water infrastructure,” Hochul said in a statement. “Long Island’s water resources are vital to the people who live there, to the local economy, and to the plants and animals that call the island home. I am committed to protecting the health of all New Yorkers, and this bill is a promise to future generations that we will keep building a more resilient, sustainable state while ensuring clean water for all.”
A list of eligible waterbodies will be posted once counties have been notified how much funding they will be receiving.
The goal is to help reduce water pollution.
