Hyundai Offers Free Tesla NAC Adapters to EV Customers

Hyundai announced on Monday that customers who have purchased or leased an electric vehicle (EV) before January 31 will receive a free charging adapter to access Tesla’s supercharging network.

The Hyundai-authorized adapter will allow drivers of Hyundai EVs with CCS ports to use over 20,000 Tesla Superchargers in the US, as reported by Hyundai. Eligible owners of model-year 2024 and older Kona Electric, Ioniq hatchback, Ioniq 5, and Ioniq 6 vehicles can get the free adapters. Model-year 2025 Ioniq 6, Ioniq 5 N, and Kona Electric vehicles are also included.

To receive the free NACs adapter, customers must request it through the MyHyundai owner portal online.

The adoption of Tesla’s North American Charging Standard (NACS) has gained momentum since Ford and GM announced their plans to integrate it into upcoming EV models and sell adapters for current EV owners. Previously, most EVs, except Tesla, used Combined Charging System (CCS) connectors.

Many automakers have partnered with Tesla to provide customers with NACs adapters, and some are looking to incorporate the charging port into future EVs, like Lucid.

While the rollout of the adapters has faced challenges, progress has been made with some automakers starting to distribute them to non-Tesla customers in recent months.
