An Illinois family managed to escape unscathed after deputies reported that lightning struck their car while they were driving on a highway on Saturday.
The incident took place on Route 13 in southern Illinois just before 6 p.m. Deputies from the Williamson County Sheriff’s Office arrived at the scene and found the family of three outside the damaged Ford, as reported by the sheriff’s office.
The family informed deputies that they heard a loud noise similar to a gunshot before smoke filled the vehicle.

No injuries were reported, and authorities confirmed that the family was safe.

The Williamson County Sheriff’s Office stated that a family’s vehicle suffered significant damage after being hit by lightning on Saturday evening while traveling on a highway in Illinois.
Local firefighters also provided assistance, and deputies mentioned that the family’s vehicle was towed from the scene.
Various roads throughout the county were shut down on Saturday due to flooding, according to the sheriff’s office.
