During Tuesday’s presidential debate, dial monitoring of a Fox News focus group revealed that independent voters aligned with Republicans in supporting former President Trump’s immigration policies.
Trump criticized Vice President Kamala Harris during the ABC News Presidential Debate, attributing the influx of illegal immigration to the Biden-Harris administration and accusing them of “destroying the fabric of our country.”
Trump also blamed the administration for the increase in “migrant crime,” a sentiment that resonated not only with Republicans but also with a significant number of independent respondents.
The focus group consisted of seven Democrats, five independents, and five Republicans, represented by blue, yellow, and red lines, respectively. When Trump discussed the rising crime due to illegal immigrants, the yellow line monitoring the independent reaction significantly increased in favor of Trump, aligning with the red Republican line.
FOX NEWS VOTER PANEL SAYS HARRIS WON THE DEBATE
Lee Carter, a pollster and president of Maslansky + Partners, expressed surprise at the close alignment between independent voters and Republicans on the issue.
“I was really surprised by the strong independent support for Donald Trump. Independents are closely tracking with Republicans, seeking answers on immigration, the economy, and a promise of change,” Carter stated.
She continued, “Independents are looking for a different approach, especially from Kamala Harris, and want to know how things will be improved.”
VOTERS REACT TO TRUMP SAYING HE ‘TOOK A BULLET TO THE HEAD’ OVER LEFT RHETORIC
An independent voter from New York highlighted the impact of the migrant crisis in the five boroughs and criticized Harris for failing to defend the administration’s policies.
The voter pointed out the need for an explanation for the changes made to Trump’s immigration policies and expressed dissatisfaction with the current state of affairs.
Carter pointed out instances where independents aligned with Republicans on various issues, signaling a trend in their reactions.
Faulkner emphasized the significance of the dial results, indicating a need for the GOP to pay attention to non-affiliated voters.
