Indiana parents arrested for tying up 10-year-old son with zip ties and instructing sibling to hit him

A couple from Indiana is facing allegations of subjecting their 10-year-old son to “nutritional” neglect, restraining him with zip ties, covering his head with a towel to prevent him from watching TV, and instructing his siblings to physically harm him.

Melody Rose Greenwood, 38, and Adam Jon Greenwood, 36, are both facing preliminary charges for neglect of a dependent.

The abuse came to light when the emaciated child was taken to Indiana University Health Ball Memorial Hospital for an examination that showed signs of “nutritional” neglect and abuse, as reported by Muncie Police.

The suspected abuse was reported to the authorities.

Melody Rose Greenwood, 38, was preliminary charged with three counts of neglect of a dependent.

The Indiana Department of Child Services, which is investigating the abuse allegations, spoke to the victim’s seven siblings. The siblings revealed that the 10-year-old was fed only canned food like beans, tomatoes, and soup, while the rest of the family ate “normal meals” such as cheeseburgers and fast food, according to the Muncie Star Press.

The child was made to stand against a wall for up to 12 hours a day, sometimes with a towel over his head to prevent him from watching TV.

He recounted how his siblings were instructed to physically harm him if he spoke or moved away from the wall.

Adam Jon Greenwood, 36, was preliminary charged with two counts of neglect of a dependent.

The child also disclosed that his mother had used zip ties to restrain him, causing him pain from the tightness. He mentioned an incident where his hands were zip-tied behind his back for a whole night at bedtime.

A law enforcement officer observed “scars and marks on his wrists” indicative of restraints.

Allegedly, two older siblings were responsible for educating the younger ones, with homeschooling limited to reading three chapters of a book each day while the parents were away at work.
