In the world of podcasting, the Rodecaster Pro was highly praised when it first launched in 2018. Now, microphone maker Rode is expanding its user-friendly line to include video production.
The Rodecaster Video is entering a more competitive market compared to the original Pro board. With a price tag of $1,119, it faces tougher competition in the video-first era, where many similar devices have been introduced.
Rode is targeting the same novice audience that was interested in the Pro, aiming to help them improve their video production without investing in a full professional setup.
Unlike the Pro, which focused solely on audio podcasts, the Video is versatile and can be used by solo Twitch streamers or multi-person in-studio video productions. It is designed to be placed in front of a computer, rather than in the middle of a podcasting table, making it more compact than the original model.
The Rodecaster Video features Neutrik jacks with pre-amps for XLR mics, four HDMI ports, and two USB-C inputs, allowing users to switch between video sources in real time. It also offers various audio processing options like EQ, compressor, high-pass filter, de-esser, and noise gate.
It can handle green and blue screen cues, switch audio between video sources, and stream to major platforms via Wi-Fi, Ethernet, or USB. Additionally, it can record directly to an external hard drive.
CEO Damien Wilson stated, “For decades, our mission has been to empower creators with professional yet accessible audio equipment. With the Rodecaster Video, we are doing the same for video production, making studio-grade solutions accessible to today’s creators.”
Preorders for the Rodecaster Video are now available, with shipping beginning on October 10.
