Women, children among dead as Israel’s military again attacks civilians sheltering in so-called humanitarian safe zone.
Reports from local medics and news organizations indicate that at least 11 Palestinians, including women and children, were killed in an Israeli air strike on makeshift tents in a designated humanitarian safe zone in southern Gaza.
The incident occurred in the al-Mawasi area, which had been declared a “safe zone” by Israel’s military during the conflict in Gaza. Among the 11 casualties were three children and two women.
Footage of the aftermath showed people searching for survivors amidst burning tents, debris, and washed clothes left hanging in the camp for displaced people.
The Reuters news agency reported that 15 people were also wounded in the attack, although their conditions were not specified.
Israel’s military did not provide a statement regarding the strike on the humanitarian area, which has been a consistent target for Israeli airstrikes, drones, and artillery.
Previous attacks on the same area had resulted in additional casualties, including women and children.
Earlier this week, Israeli tanks advanced on al-Mawasi, causing families to flee in fear of an impending attack. Similar incidents of violence had occurred in the area, leading to further casualties and destruction.
The death toll from recent attacks in Gaza continues to rise, with many civilians being caught in the crossfire of the ongoing conflict.
