Israel’s airstrikes kill over 40 in eastern Lebanon, sparking conflict between Israel and Lebanon

Reports indicate that over 40 individuals have lost their lives due to Israeli air strikes in eastern Lebanon, specifically in the city of Baalbek. Rescue teams are currently working to find survivors trapped under the debris.

The Ministry of Public Health confirmed that the attacks on the Bekaa Valley and Baalbek resulted in the deaths of 40 individuals and injuries to 53 others. Among the casualties, 11 individuals lost their lives in Baalbek, with nine of them in the Shikan district, a densely populated Sunni area within the city.

Additionally, an Israeli airstrike in the village of Nasriyah claimed the lives of 16 people, as reported by the ministry.

Efforts are ongoing to locate any missing persons amidst the wreckage, the ministry stated.

The attacks occurred shortly after Naim Qassem, Hezbollah’s new secretary-general, expressed doubts about the effectiveness of political actions in ending Israel’s offensive. He suggested that indirect negotiations could be a potential avenue if Israel ceased its bombardment of Lebanon.

According to Health Ministry data, the ongoing conflict in Gaza has resulted in over 3,050 fatalities and 13,658 injuries as a result of Israeli attacks.
