According to Stephen Zunes, chair of the Middle Eastern Studies Program at the University of San Francisco, US president-elect Donald Trump is delegating US Middle East policy to individuals who view God as a type of cosmic real estate agent.
Zunes asserts that Trump’s warning of dire consequences in the Middle East with regards to Israeli hostages implies a bleaker future for Palestinians. Speaking with host Steve Clemons, he predicts that the situation for Palestinians is likely to deteriorate further under Trump’s administration.
Zunes acknowledges that unlike his predecessors, Trump will not claim to be working towards a fair and just peace in the region. However, he suggests that this clarity may at least provide a more honest approach to the issue.
