Itch.io, an indie game storefront, is currently offline due to a bogus phishing report. Although the servers are still running, the domain is pointing to unauthorized IP addresses, rendering it inaccessible for most users.
Itch.io attributes the issue to pop culture collectibles company Funko, accusing them of generating a false phishing report through their Brand Shield software. This has led to the domain registrar disabling the domain, awaiting resolution.
While the problematic page has been removed, itch.io is currently in a waiting period for their domain to be re-enabled by the registrar, iwantmyname, following automated actions.
If you are familiar with modifying the hosts file to map hostnames to IP addresses, you can use the IP address 45.33.107.166 temporarily until the domain is restored. Itch.io anticipates a quick resolution to avoid the need for a new domain name.
The domain issues coincide with itch.io offering users the option to use their domain name for Bluesky accounts. However, due to the current domain problems, users experiencing an “invalid handle” error on Bluesky until the main itch.io domain is functioning again.
