July Summer Speaker Series Lineup Unveiled by DHDC


AMARILLO, Texas (KFDA) – The Don Harrington Discovery Center will host its Summer Speaker Series on Sunday, July 7, from 4:45 p.m. to 6:15 p.m. at the Discovery Center auditorium.

The event is free and open to the public.

The Summer Speaker Series highlights women in science and research-based careers and is held in conjunction with the Discovery Center’s “Girls Who Science” program, which takes place on the first Monday of each month.

July’s featured speakers include:

  • Heather Lancour, Air Work Leader at the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ), Region 1 Amarillo Office
  • Vishakha Kulkarni, Ph.D. student at Texas Tech University’s School of Veterinary Medicine and graduate research assistant biotechnologist
  • Eva Suenkel, Environmental Investigator III at TCEQ Region 1 in Amarillo. Suenkel previously spent six years with Texas A&M AgriLife conducting entomology research before joining TCEQ in 2022

Following the speaker presentations, a special science activity will be provided exclusively for members of the “Girls Who Science” club, which is open to girls ages 8 to 18.

Other guests are welcome to stay and explore the Discovery Center’s east wing or engage with the speakers during a Q&A session.

Light snacks and water will be available for attendees.

The “Girls Who Science” program is supported by The Moody Foundation and aims to inspire young girls to pursue careers in STEM fields.
