Justin Thomas is making his first appearance of the year in 2025 after a challenging season in 2024. He is eager to start the new PGA Tour season on a positive note and recently engaged in a unique practice session ahead of the Sentry tournament this weekend.
During his practice round in Maui, Thomas hosted a junior golf clinic where young golfers had the opportunity to observe and learn from the PGA star. The kids asked him questions and even competed against him in various challenges.
Reflecting on the experience, Thomas stated, “I really do feel like it wasn’t that long ago and also forever ago that I was in their shoes, so if a couple of these kids from out here can become the future of golf and play in the LPGA or PGA, then that’s pretty cool down the road one day.”
The local children, referred to as “keiki” by the Sentry tournament post, interacted with Thomas during the clinic. “Keiki” is a Hawaiian term used colloquially to refer to children. As of the time of writing, Thomas had not yet started his round at the Sentry, while other golfers like Tom Hoge and Harry Hall had already begun their 2025 season.
Justin Thomas excited for 2025 after Presidents Cup snub
Despite not being part of the 2024 Presidents Cup team after being a key player for Team USA in both the Ryder Cup and Presidents Cup, Justin Thomas sees the snub as motivation for the upcoming year. He expressed his excitement to play with a renewed determination and mentioned feeling eager to compete with a chip on his shoulder.
In an interview with The Athletic, Thomas mentioned, “I haven’t had the opportunity to play pissed off for awhile, so I’m pretty excited to play a little pissed off this year.” Despite understanding the decision, he maintained a positive attitude and even shared lighthearted moments with Captain Jim Furyk.
Thomas joked with Furyk about the selection process and expressed support for the team during the Presidents Cup. He acknowledged their victory and humorously mentioned his close relationship with Furyk that allowed him to banter about the decisions made.
“Glad that they won, and was pulling for ’em like crazy, but luckily we’re close enough where I feel like I can do that and he won’t get too mad,” Thomas added.
The USA and International teams had competitive days before the United States secured the win with a strong final round performance.
