Kathy Bates’ weight loss is garnering attention on screen and on the red carpet.
Appearing on CBS’ critically acclaimed Matlock, her career spanning decades remains unstoppable.
During Sunday’s Golden Globe Awards, she shared about losing 100 pounds — and how she achieved it.
And no, it’s probably not what you’re thinking.
At the Golden Globe Awards, Kathy Bates dazzled
Kathy Bates looked absolutely stunning at the Golden Globe Awards on Sunday, January 5.
The 76-year-old legendary actress was nominated for best performance by a female actor in a television series drama — for Matlock, naturally. (She lost to Shogun‘s Anna Sawai.)
Along with her sense of style, Kathy Bates was proudly displaying her weight loss. She showcased the same at the 2024 Emmy Awards in September. Over seven years, she managed to shed 100 pounds.
Primarily, Kathy Bates was excited to discuss with People about her outfit for the evening.
She mentioned that both she and a friend who accompanied her “were in tears” during her fitting “because everything I tried on looked absolutely exquisite.”
She also added that she felt “completely relaxed and prepared” before the awards show.
Kathy Bates ‘felt great and I looked great’ following her weight loss
“I knew I felt great, and I looked great,” Kathy Bates excitedly shared about the night.
“We had a fantastic little skit with Antony [Starr] and Giancarlo [Esposito],” she mentioned.
Describing the beloved actress, “It was a beautiful evening,” she expressed. “That night was truly special.”
Regarding her weight loss journey, Kathy Bates shared with People that she lost the initial 80 pounds through lifestyle and dietary changes.
She became serious about her health after being diagnosed with type 2 diabetes around 2017. This motivated her to make significant changes to her lifestyle.
Bates did acknowledge losing another 20 pounds through the use of Ozempic. Despite the controversy surrounding the use of this diabetes medication for weight loss purposes, it should be noted that Bates’ journey began with a diabetes diagnosis.
This isn’t an Ozempic story
“There has been a lot of speculation that I achieved this because of Ozempic,” Kathy Bates recognized.
“However, I want to stress to everyone out there that this was hard work for me,” she emphasized, “especially during the pandemic.”
She noted, “It’s very difficult to say you’ve had enough.” So true!
