Katie Ledecky has solidified her status as the GOAT of women’s swimming.
At 27 years old, she clinched her 13th Olympic medal in the women’s 4×200-meter freestyle relay, making her the sole woman to achieve this milestone.
Ledecky matched Jenny Thompson, Emma McKeon, and Dara Torres with her gold medal in the 1500-meter event on Wednesday.
She secured a silver medal in that event, with Australia claiming gold, their fifth swimming gold of the Games.
Joining Michael Phelps, Ledecky is one of only two swimmers in Olympic history, regardless of gender, to earn at least 13 Olympic medals.
In the relay, Ledecky was the third American swimmer, diving in while the U.S. trailed by 1.4 seconds, but she reduced the gap to 0.7 seconds during her leg. She touched the wall for the final time with the U.S. behind by 0.33 seconds.
Erin Gemmell anchored the U.S. team, but Ariarne Titmus of Australia proved too strong.
