Kia has announced a recall of more than 22,000 electric cars in the United States due to missing seat mounting bolts.
The recall affects 22,883 Kia EV9 electric cars from the 2024-2025 model year. The company has identified that some of these vehicles are missing second and third-row seat mounting bolts, which could result in the seats not properly restraining occupants in certain collisions, increasing the risk of injury. The Kia EV9, launched in 2023, is Kia’s first three-row electric SUV.

Thankfully, the defect is not believed to pose any danger until an accident occurs. Kia has stated that no injuries, crashes, fatalities, or fires have resulted from the missing bolts, which were a mistake made by an assembly plant worker in South Korea.

Kia advises that customers may hear their seats rattling or notice the seats in their EV9 feeling loose.
Notifications will be sent to affected Kia owners starting from January 24. Individuals who suspect their car may be part of the recall can reach out to Kia customer service. Owners of impacted Kia EV9 vehicles will be directed to contact an authorized dealer for inspection of all seat mounting bolts, installation of any missing bolts, and proper fastening, all at no charge.
